Porchetta Tour: a culinary adventure in Umbria, coming May 2020

Porchetta is one of Italy’s the most popular street food: a whole roasted pig with crispy skin and an unmistakable rich and herbal flavor. There many regional variations, but the Umbrian Porchetta takes pride in holding the original recipe, with savoury meat generously seasoned with garlic, salt, pepper, wild fennel and rosemary or lard. The slow roasted pork is sliced and served sandwiched in a crusty bread roll, straight in the market fair.

Join Barbara at Wine Link Italy, Letizia at Agriturismo Alla Madonna del Piatto and Sara Jenkins Chef-owner of Nina June Restaurant in Maine and Porsena in NYC, for a unique, small group trip to Umbria centered around a wonderful porchetta festival.

Over four days you will eat pork, drink wine and be truly merry.

May is perhaps the most magical time to visit Umbria, the weather is balmy and the green fields are bursting into flower everywhere.
Our program consists of a variety of educational wine tastings and meals with Barbara and Sara who are passionate of all things Umbrian.
You will visit family run wineries and authentic trattorias, join a hands on cooking class with Letizia at Alla Madonna del Piatto, lunch in a private garden, attend a porchetta making demo with one of the best porchetta makers in the area.
 You will tour Foligno, Perugia, Montefalco, Assisi and the tiny borgo of San Terenziano where the Porchettiamo festival is held.
You will sample porchetta and porchetta variations from the best makers all over Italy at the fair as well as experience a typical Italian street fair.



The price includes all what is stated in the program and specifically:
● Group pick up/drop off at train station in Umbria. A single location (Assisi or Foligno) will be determined depending on guests itineraries.
● Private minibus transportation for 4 days
● visits to several beautiful Umbrian hilltowns: Assisi, Spello, Foligno, Bevagna, Montefalco,
Perugia, San Terenziano
● 4 nights B&B accommodations at Agriturismo Alla Madonna Del Piatto
● 2 set menu dinners (three courses menu with Umbrian wines)
● 1 BBQ farmhouse dinner
● 1 half-day cooking class with Letizia Mattiacci with lunch
● 1 lunch with cooking demo with Salvatore Denaro
● 1 winery visit 
● 1 picnic lunch at Porchetta village Festival

● 1 porchetta making workshop

● 1 guided visit to Assisi with a professional tour guide (focus on the life of the

Total cost of the tour per person, based on a maximum of 10 participants and double occupancy, is €1950 to be paid to Laramie LLC. 
A non-refundable deposit of 30% (€585) of the total cost is required by January 15, 2020 to secure reservation. Final payments are due by March 1st, 2020.

The price doesn’t include:

  • airfares

  • bank fees for any direct payments to Wine Link Italy or Alla Madonna del Piatto (e.g. for transport to different locations in Italy or additional nights at the B&B) 

  • everything not mentioned in the specific tour itinerary, or mentioned as being an option. 

  • all personal expenditure

  • travel insurance 

  • meals not specifically mentioned in itinerary or which are referred to as ” lunch or dinner on your own”.
